Galentine’s Day has become an annual celebration for my friends and I. Whether you’re single or taken, celebrating with the girls is just as important during the Valentine’s Day season. My best friends and I love getting together for almost every holiday so making sure this event was perfect was important to me. This year I kept things simple and festive. I decided to make it a pajama party so I wanted everything to be comfy yet cute. I purchased almost everything from Target which had so many cute Galentine’s Day themed decorations. I thought it would be a struggle finding decorations, but it only took one shopping trip to Target.
For food, I had Buca Di Beppo cater. This is my second time ordering from them, and I haven’t been disappointed. Their service is great and the food is delicious. I also had donuts for desserts and a variety of cute drinks from World Market.
Even though we’re all in our 20’s, I still did party favors because I personally love them. I purchased the most adorable candy gift boxes from Sugarfina which were all Valentine’s Day themed. I also got some Galentine’s themed acrylic wine glasses for everyone.
Here are my tips for celebrating throwing the perfect Galentine’s Day:
1. Set the Date in Advance.
With everyone’s busy schedules, finding the ideal day can be a challenge. My goal for every event is to have all my friends able to go so I always send out possible dates around 2 months ahead.
2. Think About You and Your Friends Favorite Foods and Activities.
Your event doesn’t have to be over the top and fancy to be a success. Plan a movie, make a playlist or buy a new game. Consider what you and your friends like to do.
My friends and I typically just love talking a ton and sharing funny stories, so I typically don’t stress about having more than one activity.
3. Don’t be afraid to ask your friends questions about the event.
Create a poll on Facebook or just ask for opinions if you’re at a loss for what food or activity to have. Take suggestions but don’t let other’s ideas and expectations cause you stress, in the end, this is your event.
4. Set a budget.
To me, having a budget is one of the most important aspects of throwing any event. It’s very easy to overspend and the last thing you want is to have a party that’s stressful because of how expensive it is. Consider how much you want to spend on food, decorations, and drinks. With larger groups, having a potluck is always a fun and budget-friendly idea. DIY decorations are fun and typically affordable. Before I buy decorations I always visit the dollar section at Target and Amazon.
5. Have a dress code.
Whether it’s pajamas or a cocktail dress, letting know your guests of the dress code ahead of time is common courtesy and will ensure less confusion.
6. Have a color scheme and see what décor you may already own.
Thinking about what colors and theme you want in advance can help you narrow down exactly what you need. Not having a set theme, can make you purchase items you don’t already need. Organizing what you already have that you can use, will allow you spend less on decorations. I always save my tablecloths, runners, and cocktail glasses because I know they are reusable and a great investment for future events.
7. Purchase Decorations in Advance.
I visit Target frequently so as soon as I see decorations I like, I purchase them right away. You’d be surprised how quickly items sell out and it’s not fun finding decorations at the last minute without having to pay for expedited shipping. If you find decorations way earlier then you’d like, you could always leave then unopened and save receipts in case you find something better down the line. Having a simple vase with a few flowers really decorates any event easily and is typically under $10.
8. Food is the Typically Main Event.
Great food always leads to a successful event. If you’re on a tight budget, focus on the food first. Always think about an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Also, consider dietary restrictions and accommodating to everyone.
9. Purchase a festive dessert or make one.
A delicious dessert is perfect for making your event feel like the special day that it is. I always look forward to the dessert like most people.
10. Have fun and celebrate your friendships.
Enjoy the party and be grateful for all your friends. Not everything has to go perfectly so don’t stress, it’s all about spending time with the people who are important to you!
Happy Galentine’s Day!
